Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, age-appropriate activities that support the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework across all areas of learning and development.
• Provide high-quality care that meets the individual physical, emotional, and social needs of children from babies to pre-school age, including feeding, changing, and nap routines.
• Observe, assess, and accurately record each child's progress, maintaining detailed learning journals and contributing to formal progress reports for parents and guardians.
• Foster a safe, inclusive, stimulating, and nurturing environment that promotes children's wellbeing, confidence, and independence.
• Work collaboratively as part of a nursery team, communicating effectively with colleagues, room leaders, and the nursery manager to ensure consistent, high-standard care.
• Build positive, supportive, and professional relationships with parents and carers, providing daily feedback and discussing their child's development sensitively and confidentially.
• Ensure all health, safety, safeguarding, and hygiene policies are strictly adhered to, conducting daily risk assessments of the play environment and equipment.
• Support children with additional needs, working in partnership with senior staff and external professionals to implement individual support plans.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications

To be successful in this Nursery Nurse role in Southampton, you will need:

• A recognised Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification (or equivalent) that meets the EYFS staffing requirements.
• Proven experience working as a Nursery Nurse, Early Years Practitioner, or in a similar role within a nursery, pre-school, or early years setting.
• A thorough, up-to-date understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and its practical application.
• A genuine passion for childcare and early years education, demonstrated through a patient, caring, and enthusiastic approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with young children, colleagues, and parents from diverse backgrounds.
• Current, enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one immediately.
• Paediatric First Aid certification (or willingness to undertake training promptly).
• Reliability, flexibility, and a strong professional work ethic, with the ability to adapt to different nursery teams and routines.
