Core Responsibilities & Daily Duties
Building Maintenance & Safety
- Conducting daily building inspections and reporting any maintenance issues, hazards, or defects.
- Performing minor repairs and basic maintenance tasks (e.g., changing light bulbs, unblocking drains, tightening fixtures).
- Monitoring and ensuring the correct operation of heating, ventilation, and other building systems.
- Carrying out routine fire safety checks, testing alarms, and ensuring fire exits are clear.
- Overseeing contractor access and work, ensuring sites are left clean and safe.
Cleaning, Security & Customer Service
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness in common areas: lobbies, corridors, stairwells, and toilets.
- Managing waste disposal and recycling operations according to schedule.
- Securing the building: locking/unlocking, monitoring access control systems, and managing key distribution.
- Acting as a Concierge point of contact for tenants, visitors, and delivery personnel, providing assistance and information.
- Recording and reporting any security incidents or breaches promptly.
Essential Skills & Experience We Require
While full training is provided for site-specific procedures, the following baseline skills are essential for success in this Building Caretaker role:
- ✓ Proven experience in a caretaking, janitorial, or facilities maintenance role.
- ✓ Strong understanding of basic health & safety regulations (COSHH, manual handling).
- ✓ Ability to perform physical tasks and use standard maintenance tools.
- ✓ Excellent communication skills for dealing with tenants and clients.
- ✓ Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- ✓ A valid UK driver's license and own transport is highly advantageous for roles across multiple sites.
