Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

As a Yard Operative in Newcastle, your core function is to ensure the smooth running of the external storage and dispatch area. Your day will be varied, physical, and crucial to site operations.

  Material Handling & Organisation: Safely loading and unloading building materials (bricks, timber, aggregates, drainage products) from delivery vehicles using appropriate manual handling techniques or machinery like forklifts (if licensed). Sorting, stacking, and storing materials in designated yard locations to maintain clear access and inventory accuracy.

  Customer Service & Goods Dispatch: Assisting trade customers and internal drivers with locating and collecting orders. Preparing orders for collection or delivery, which includes picking items from the yard, checking against paperwork, and safely securing loads on vehicles.

  Yard Maintenance & Housekeeping: Proactively maintaining excellent housekeeping standards. This includes sweeping, clearing debris, managing waste streams (recycling and general waste), and ensuring walkways and storage bays are clean, tidy, and free from hazards to comply with strict health and safety regulations.

  Inventory Support & Stock Checks: Assisting with periodic stock counts and reporting any discrepancies, damage, or low stock levels to the yard supervisor. Helping to rotate stock on a FIFO (First-In, First-Out) basis where applicable.

  Safety & Compliance: Adhering to all site-specific safety rules, wearing mandatory PPE (High-Vis, safety boots, gloves, hard hat) at all times, and participating in daily safety briefings. Reporting any near misses, incidents, or defective equipment immediately.
